Lawrence Hyde Obituary

Cartersville, Georgia – Lawrence Jackson Hyde, 94, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born December 15, 1931, in Gainesville, Georgia, he was a son of the late William Dorsey Hyde and the late Annie Odessa Waldrep Hyde.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings who passed in infancy, as well as Charlotte Hyde, Thera Zifle and James Hyde.

Survivors include his wife of almost 65 years, Claire Duggan Hyde; daughter, Diane Hyde Smith; son, Lawrence Jackson Hyde, Jr.; grandsons, William Graham Smith and William Denton Smith; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.

Born in Gainesville, Georgia, he was raised in Walhalla, South Carolina. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, receiving an honorable discharge in 1954. Following service in the military, he graduated from Georgia Southern University. He moved to Moultrie to teach high school English and coach tennis and swimming. While in Moultrie, he met Claire Duggan and they married on March 15, 1961. He later worked for the Centers for Disease Control and the Environmental Protection Agency.

He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed golf, working in his yard, Clemson football, and loved spending time with his family.

He will be laid to rest at Westview Cemetery in Moultrie, Georgia, and the family will have a memorial service at a later date in Cartersville, Georgia.

The family is requesting no flowers.

James "Jim" Waldrep Obituary

James L. "Jim" Waldrep, 91, of Lula, Ga., died on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. A native of Hall County, Georgia, he attended Gainesville High School, Georgia Tech, and the University of Georgia. Jim was an Associate of Milliken and Company for 40 years before retiring in 1993, during which time he served as Personnel Manager for the New Holland Mill, the Gainesville Mill, the Sibley Plant in Lavonia, and the Newton Plant in Hartwell. He was a former president of the American Society of Personnel Administrators and the Georgia College Placement Association, and in his retirement, he worked as a dealer in antiques and collectibles.  

He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Waldrep; his mother, Daisy Farmer Waldrep Taylor; his step-father, Thomas Taylor; his sisters, Jean Waldrep Whelchel and Barbara Waldrep Fuller; his brother, Terry Taylor; his brother-in-law, Bill Whelchel; and his wife, Carolyn Hutchins Grant Waldrep. Survivors include his sons, J.D. "Dev" Waldrep and Justin Waldrep; his daughters, Stacey Waldrep Hodges (David) and Kimberly Waldrep Evon; his step-daughter, Gail Grant Evans (Tommy); and his sister-in-law, Darlene Taylor Gilstrap (Phil).

He will be interred at Alta Vista Cemetery in a private ceremony.

In lieu of floral memorials, the family requests that donations be made to one's favorite charities.

Jimmy Waldrep, age 85, of New Holland, GA, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Geneva R. Waldrep; mother, Clara Mae Cantrell; father, Manley Waldrep; and brother, Eddie Waldrep. Mr. Waldrep is survived by his children, Sheila Waldrep, Carla Waldrep, Joseph Waldrep (Michelle), Benjamin Waldrep (Christy) all of Gainesville, GA; grandchildren, Jacob Waldrep, Katelyn Martin, Alayna Waldrep, Noah Waldrep; sisters, Geraldine Roper of Gainesville, GA, Donna Noll (Bart) of Cleveland, GA, Sandra Roberts (Stanley) of Gainesville, GA; sisters-in-law, Sue Waldrep of Gainesville, GA, Vera Roberts of Seneca, SC; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Waldrep was born on July 21, 1936, in New Holland, GA. He was retired from General Motors Assembly Plant in the Maintenance Department, Doraville, GA, after 51 years of service. Mr. Waldrep was a member and Deacon of New Holland Baptist Church and member of UAW Local 10. He was an avid wood carver. Mr. Waldrep was a volunteer rescue scuba diver for Hall County, GA for several years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm.at New Holland Baptist Church in Gainesville (7 Quarry St).
