He married Casander Moody in Paulding County GA.   A copy of their marriage license was furnished by Gladys Wilson and is in the files of Lloyd Waldrep.
His surname was spelled Waldroupe in the 1860 census; Waldrip in the 1880 census and Waldrep in the 1900 census.
In the 1870 census of Lumpkin Co GA, age 16, b. GA, living in home of Archibald and Nancy Wimpy.   Name shown as Lewis Waldrup.
In the 1880 census of Paulding Co GA; Vol 18, E.D. 158, Sheet 3, Line 39.
1900 census of Hamilton Co TX shows him and family except for oldest son. Vol 52, ED 84, Sheet 2,  Line 31.
He lived near Dallas, Paulding County, Georgia before moving to Texas about 1882 to 1885 and settled near Carlton, Texas. When the federal government announced the opening of Indian Territory of Oklahoma to settlers, he and his family went to the vicinity of eastern Oklahoma, but before the date to rush into the territory, a rattlesnake tried to make a meal of him and he was unable to go. They went back to TX where he lived out his life near Carlton in Hamilton County.
Descendants are scattered; some live near Dallas, TX, some still live in Hamilton County TX, some live in central Texas, some live near Wichita Falls, Texas, many live in the Texas panhandle, some live in AZ, CA, OR, FL, MN, IL, MO, etc.
He worked on the Barbee Ranch until he could buy his farm near Carlton.
He and his wife are buried in the Honey Creek Cemetery located near Carlton, Hamilton County, Texas.   To get there from Hico, Texas, go south on US highway 281 until you reach FM Highway 1744. Turn right on FM 1744 and go toward Carlton. When you get to County Road 122,  turn left on CR122. Go about 4.8 miles and when you get to CR120, turn on CR120 and the entrance to the Honey Creek cemetery is on your left after going about 0.3 miles.  Open gate to enter the lane,  close the gate after entering,  then go down the lane until you reach the cemetery where there is another gate.  Their gravesite is not far from the gate at the cemetery, about 25 yards, perhaps.
Louis married (MRIN:2) Mary Casander MOODY-12 daughter of Thomas MOODY-791 and Retincy Hill CHAPMAN-792 (MRIN:14) on 2 Dec 1877 in Dallas, Paulding County, GA. Casander is the correct spelling of her given name according to Ines Davis Waldrep and Artie Oxley.   They said she always insisted her name was "Casander".  Her Marriage License spells her name  Casander Moody.  Her parents were Thomas Moody and Retency H. Chapman of GA.
She married Louis Elijah Waldrep in Paulding County GA on Dec 2, 1877.
Their marriage license was issued Nov 27, 1877. See copy in file.
They lived near Dallas, Paulding County, Georgia for a time and moved to a location near Carlton, Hamilton County, Texas between about 1884 and 1885.
The 1920 Hamilton County Census spelled her married name as Waldred.
She told some great-grandchildren in the 1940's that our Waldrep family came to America as part of General Oglethorpe's colony,  with some brothers signing themselves into servitude to get one released from debtors prison. Afterward, some returned to Europe,  but some stayed here.  Few of them would freely admit their servitude.   I, Lloyd Waldrep, was one she told this story to, in the summer of 1943.   So far, we cannot confirm or refute this story.

Perrin Waldrep and Descendants

Perrin  WALDREP-6

First Generation

1. Perrin (Waldroup) WALDREP-6 was born in 1826 in , Habersham Co, GA. He died on 5 Jan 1864 in , Habersham Co, GA.His date of death has been reported as January 5 or 6 in either 1863 or 1864 in official records of CSA widows pension papers. Perrin is spelled Perron in some records.
He married Miss Mary A. Wilkerson on February 22, 1849 in Habersham County GA according to county records, but marriage license gives 2/19/1849. His name is spelled Perryon Waldrup and her name is spelled  Miss Mary Ann Wilkerson on the records shown in Marriage Book B, page 63  for Habersham County GA.   (See comments further along about her name).
When in the CSA army for training, he became very ill and was sent home while still very ill, walked a long way from the train to get home and  died a matter of days later, as reported by family members.
His surname was spelled Waldrope in the 1830 census of Habersham County GA and was spelled Waldrup on the marriage records of Habersham County GA.  It was spelled Waldroupe or Waldroup at other times.   We have used his name as Waldrep to agree with the spelling used by most descendants we have traced so far.   He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, joining in 1853.   The minutes of the Providence Baptist Church also show  other of our family as members. The surname as used in the minutes is spelled Waldroup.
He was in Company K; 24th Regiment; Georgia Volunteers, serving under W. Griggs. Search of CSA records at the GA Archives failed to show this unit. The widow's application for pension in January 3, 1902 shows he entered service August 1, 1862 and went home with pneumonia December 22, 1863 where he died.   See her notes copied for us by Mimi Jo Butler.   1830 Census Habersham County, Georgia.   Marriage License dated 19 Feb 1849,  Habersham County, Georgia. 1860 Census Habersham County, Georgia.   Member of  the Providence Baptist Church, joining in 1853.   Enlisted September 18(63?)  under W. Griggs, Company K, 24 Georgia Regiment.  Died at home of the fever.   His date of death was reported as January 5 or 6, 1863/64 in the official records of CSA Widows Pension papers. According  to descendants, Perrin became very ill while involved in Boot Training.   He became very ill and was sent home. He died a short time after arriving home. Another record reflects that Perrin died 5 May 1863.   His name does not appear in the records of  Co. K, 24th GA Regiment so apparently he never got out of basic training.  Refer to "The Hills of Habersham"  written by Mary L. Church of Clarkesville, GA in 1962.
From the minutes of Providence Baptist Church in Batesville, GA:   In the January 1853 meeting Perrien Waldroup received by experience.   The minutes are in the GA Archives as provided by Herbert B. Kinsey.
In the book "Once Upon A Time: Schools of Habersham County Georgia,1818-1955" written by Betty Sisk and Ellene Gowder,  Page 26 shows that he was 8 years old in 1834, according to records from the GA Archives. His name shown as Paron Waldrup and some siblings are also listed . We use this as basis for his birthdate.
Quoting from information collected by Robert McMilian Waldrep of Alabama;   and sent in by Robert Hoyt "Bob" Waldrep in April 1998:  Grandfather of Robert McMilian Waldrep wrote:  "Name: Lefaite Waldrep
D/B: unknown  Place of birth: Buncom Co., North Carolina wife's maiden name: Mary Vander ,  Place of birth: South Carolina"   This refers to Perrin and his wife, apparently,  even though records in Habersham County, GA are different.   Records from others in family are basically the same as what Robert M. Waldrep had, but county and state records differ.
Perrin married (MRIN:7) Mary Ann WILKERSON-13 on 22 Feb 1849 in Habersham Co., Habersham County, GA. Mary was born on 6 Mar 1826. She died on 14 Sep 1912 in , Hall Co, GA. She was buried in Oak Grove Church, Hall Co, GA.We do not have records about her father and mother. She visited children in Texas on several occasions in the early 1900's. She was drawing a widow's pension on her husband's service in the CSA. It is difficult to find her in some census records,  but she may have been in Burk County GA in some and was in the 1900 Habersham County GA census living with her son, James L. Waldrep.
The 1860 census indicates she was born in 1830?
She is in the Habersham County Marriage Index, B63, shown as Miss Mary Ann Wilkerson.
An early family reunion shows her on a family chart as Mary Ann Vandiver  (Pickens Co) along with Peron Waldrep (Buncom Co) and says married in SC.  (Irish)  . Some of this contradicts the record of her marriage in Habersham Co GA as shown in a copy made at the courthouse in Clarkesville, Habersham Co, GA.  Was she married twice?  If so, we need to search for her marriage to a Vandiver either before she married Perrin, or,  most likely, after Perrin died.
Her birthdate and her date of death came from records collected by Sandra Deal and provided to us for  inclusion in our family history. The burial location was part of the records,  also.
James L. Waldrep of Dahlonega, GA took Lloyd Waldrep to view her burial site in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Hall Co GA on July 1, 1995.
She had a newspaper clipping in her purse when she died listing the death of a wife of A. P . Waldrip in  Bosque County, TX.  It is in files of  Lloyd A Waldrep, Felton Waldrep and James L. Waldrep.
Mimi Jo Butler, in mid-1999, extracted several Habersham County GA Confederate Pension applications and one is about her filing on January 3, 1902: "Mrs. Mary Waldrep, widow of Perrin  Waldrep, who enlisted Company K 24 Regiment of GA Volunteers on August 1, 1862, and served until December 22, 1863. Came home with pneumonia and died. Mary (X) Waldrep January 3 , 1902 - was in camp at Decatur, GA and turned over to Col. Andrews for service as per W. H . Griggs - W.H. Griggs,  enrolling officer."
Perrin and Mary had the following children:2 M i. George Amos WALDROPE-14 was born in 1851 in , Habersham Co, GA.Probably born in Habersham County. The Fair May District Census taken 4 July 1870, Clarkesville, GA show him as a 19 year old farmhand, working for Elijah C. Crow; page 54, line 37. He is on Line 4, Page 55, under the Crow family listing in dwelling 430, family 406.
The second name came through family sources (Sandra Dunagan Deal) in GA from notes she compiled over several years.
7120902, sheet 10. Surname should be spelled Waldrep.
George married (MRIN:15) Unknown .
3 F ii. Amy Elizabeth WALDROPE-15 was born in 1853 in , Habersham Co, GA.
This name may be Mary E. instead of Amy E. and is shown as Elizabeth in the 1870 Census for Batesville District, Habersham County GA, Page 38, Line 24, Dwelling 306, Family 290.
Born in Habersham County.
Amy married (MRIN:16) Unknown .

Mahulda C. WALDROUP
She married Aaron Wooten, place and date shown from marriage records of Habersham County GA. Middle initial from 1850 census records.
Ref.;; 1870 U. S. Census for Habersham County GA; Batesville/501 District; Page 38; Line 23; name is spelled Huldah WOOTEAN. The surname should be spelled Wooten instead of Wootean.
Information about place of birth came from records of Joseph Brown Waldrep, Jr although Joe shows her first name as Matilda. Careful reading of the original Marriage records show Mahulda as her name.
1870 Census for Habersham County, Georgia, Batesville 501 District, Page 38, Line 23. Her married name, Wooten, is very evident in the cemetary at the Providence Baptist Church, but her name was not researched at the time Lloyd and Jim Waldrep walked the cemetary in 1993.
Birth date taken from the 1834 school student listing for Huldah Waldrup on Page 26 of the book written by Betty Sisk and Ellene Gowder which is titled "Once Upon a Time: Schools of Habersham County Georgia, 1818-1955. She is shown as 12 years old.

Hortense C. WALDREP
From information Joe Brown Waldrep, Jr. gave us from family sources. Is she a twin to Samuel Isaac Waldrep?

CHILD 3
-
Samuel Isaac (Waldroup) WALDROPE
The 1860 census for Habersham County GA showed him as dwelling 290; family 290; at age 35, married to Nancy, age 38; son Andrew age 11; son Lewis W. age 8.
1856 minutes of Providence Baptist Church of Batesville, GA mentions that S. I. Waldroupe was received by experience.
Some reported him in TX, Ellis Co, but that man was a son of Claiborne Parrish Waldrop.
Were he and Hortense twins?
He is listed as a student in 1834 according to the book written by Betty Sisk
Shown in the 1860 Census of Habersham County, Georgia.
Is Samuel Waldrop also the same man as Isaac Waldrop?
They both appear to have the same birth and marriage dates and to the same woman?  YES! Some confusion arose because the original records were not very clear and the initial "I" looked much like an "S".
He enlisted 18 June 1862 in Pickens Volunteer's of GA, Army of TN, CSA. He was hit in the right hip 16 May 1863 at Bakers Creek, MS and was captured. This battle is also known as Battle of Champion's Hill. It occurred during the advance of Grant's Army from Jackson, toward Vicksburg.
Some data from Felton Waldrep research in 1995. Received copies of his service documentation (FHL 1499527) from Helene Pockrus in February 1996. He served in Co. C, 43 GA Infantry, Pickens Volunteers, Army of TN, CSA.
Volume IV of "Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861-1865" by Lillian Henderson shows him on page 649 as "Waldrup, Samuel - Private June 18, 1862. Wounded in right hip and captured at Baker's Creek, Miss. May 16, 1863. No later record".

CHILD 4
-
Perrin (Waldroup) WALDREP
His date of death has been reported as January 5 or 6 in either 1863 or 1864 in official records of CSA widows pension papers.
He was in Company K; 24th Regiment; Georgia Volunteers, serving under W.Griggs. Search of CSA records at the GA Archives failed to show this unit. The widow's application for pension in January 3, 1902 shows he entered service August 1, 1862 and went home with pneumonia December 22, 1863 where he died. See her notes copied for us by Mimi Jo Butler.

This was sent in by Robert Hoyt "Bob" Waldrep in April 1998:
Grandfather of Robert McMilian Waldrep wrote:  "Name: Lefaite Waldrep,  D/B: unknown;  Place of birth: Buncom Co., North Carolina; wife's maiden name: Mary Vander; Place of birth: South Carolina";  This refers to Perrin and his wife, apparently, even though records in Habersham County, GA are different.  Records from others in family are basically the same as what Robert M. Joseph Wesley WALDROUP
His names is shown as James W. in 1870 US Census, but some earlier records show his name as Joseph W., with all in Habersham County GA, Batesville District. Some records show his surname as Waldrope but the minutes of the Providence Baptist Church in Clarkesville, GA., which he joined in 1862, show the surname as Waldroup.  His occupation is shown as Miller.
The spelling of first names may not be accurate since so much of the census data is barely legible and guesses were used in reading them.  Habersham Con marriage records show him as Joseph Waldroup.
In 1880 census of White Co GA; Vol 25, E.D. 191, Sheet 32, Line 32.
According to his application for CSA pension in April 1895, he had six children. He served with Gunboat #2, Heavy Artillery, SC, during the Civil War as shown by FHC film # 0359562.

Minutes: The 99th James Lafayette Waldrep Family Reunion

The 99th James Lafayette Waldrep Family Reunion gathered Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Jaemor Farm Barn starting at 12:00 PM and ending at 3:00 PM.  There were 35 in attendance.  Due to the COVID-19 PANDEMIC, social distancing and strict CDC guidelines were observed.    Each family furnished their own food, and sat together.  No sharing of food, utensils, or drinks.  Jaemor Farms required that no more than 50 people be in attendance in the Barn, so those with compromised immune systems or other health concerns chose not to attend this year.

Members were called to order by President Tom Waldrep.  After the count those in attendance sang God Bless America.  Tom led the pledge to the flag.  Thanks was offered to those who helped prepare and setup for the reunion:  Becky Latty, Virginia Roberts, Terry Waldrep and Joey Roberts.  Tom and Jeanine’s son, Travis, offered a beautiful blessing on the food and family.

Next year’s 100th reunion is up in the air!  Jaemor needs the parking spaces on July 4th for their business, but will rent the Barn to us on July 11th.   President Tom asked us to consider what we could do for next year.

OPTIONS: 1) Change the date of the Reunion just this once to July 11th and have it at Jaemor Farms Barn, or 2) Have the Reunion on the first Sunday in July somewhere else.  We are looking into “somewhere else”!  FYI:  Waldrep Reunion Officers have visited one place - the New Holland Gym Parlor - for one possibility.  No final decisions have been made.

Suggestions on either option above are welcome!  Please email Tom (twwaldrep525@gmail.com) or Brad (wdunagan@gmail.com).

Brenda Dunagan Sims, Secretary
