Obituary

On Friday, April 12, 2019, Betty Haynes Waldrep, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, went home to be with her Lord at the age of 93.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 17. Art Wilder will be officiating the service. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the service at 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Both visitation and funeral services will be held at Southern Cremation and Funerals at Cheatham Hill at 1861 Dallas Highway SW, Marietta, Ga 30064. Burial will follow at Kennesaw Memorial.

Betty Waldrep was born in Gainesville, Georgia to Frazier and Leona Haynes on March 9, 1926. She attended Brenau University in Gainesville. She married Felton Waldrep on July 23, 1947 in Gainesville. Betty was a wonderful homemaker who loved to watch her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play baseball and basketball. That gave her so much joy.

Betty is preceded in death by her Mom and Dad, Frazier and Leona Haynes of Gainesville, Georgia; her husband, Felton; and her sister Jean Farmer.

Betty is survived by her daughter Pam and her husband Jim Stephens; by her son Steve and his wife Barbara. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Leigh Ann Buice (husband Deron), Jamie McCrink (husband Jesse); Nicole George, Evan Waldrep (wife Cristina); Maeghan Farrell (husband Dennis); and Emily Waldrep. Also, her sister Quita Pethel of Gainesville, Ga.

Betty is also survived by twelve Great-Grandchildren: Lauren and Michael Buice, Tyler and Kaleb McCrink, Cameron and Carter Waldrep, Jaden and Londyn Waldrep, Christopher George, and Ashton, Aiden, and Adalyn Farrell.

Carolyn Waldrep, 78




Carolyn Lee Hutchins Grant Waldrep, 78, of Lula, GA, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014.
            She was a native of Hall County, Georgia. She attended Lyman Hall School and Hall County Business School. She was a member of the Baptist faith and a member of the New Holland Baptist Church.
            During her working years, she was employed at Westside Pharmacy (Asst. Mgr, Buyer and Bookkeeper), Black Book Publishing (Secretary), Mr. B’s Oil Company (Asst. Security Mgr), the Times (Administrative Asst. and Ad Coordinator), and Carnes Construction Company (Secretary). She was a certified Psychological Stress Evaluator and longtime member of the Lakeshore Squares. She also taught clogging for the Gainesville Park and Recreation Department.
            During her retirement years, she was a dealer in antiques and collectibles.  
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Emory Lee Hutchins and Vannie Maness Hutchins and brother-in-law, Harold Herrin.
            Survivors include her husband James L. “Jim” Waldrep; daughter, Gail Grant Evans (Tommy); sister, Doris Hutchins Herrin; step-son, J.D. Waldrep; grandson, Hutch Evans (Brittany); granddaughter, Morgan Evans Papp Green (Wayne); niece, Kaye Herrin Stanley, great-grandchildren, Dean Evans, Jackson Evans, William Papp, Madison Green and Megan Green.
            Persons who knew her are invited to contribute a hand-written (or typed) note about “Memories of Carolyn” on an 8-1/2” X 11” sheet of paper and mail to Waldrep; 5451 Cool Creek Court; Lula, GA 30554 or email to jandcwaldrep@bellsouth.net by January 9, 2015 (1 week before remembrance reunion).
            Family member and friends will gather for a remembrance reunion at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville from 4 pm until 8 pm on January 16th, 2015.
            Cremains will be interred at Alta Vista Cemetery in a private ceremony.
It is requested that donations be made to one’s favorite charities in lieu of floral memorials.

Eddie Waldrep, 75, of Gainesville, GA, Obituary

Edgar Eugene “Eddie” Waldrep, 75 of Gainesville, Ga., passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014.
Born in New Holland, Ga., on August 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Manley David Waldrep and the late Clara Mae Waldrep Cantrell. He was also preceded in death by special aunt and uncle LC and Elsie Voyles and aunt Hattie Perry.
Mr. Waldrep was a 1958 graduate of East Hall High School. After high school, he attended Truett McConnell College and then Piedmont College where he graduated with a degree in education and was on the basketball teams at both schools.  His first teaching and coaching positions were with the Lumpkin County School System.  After two years in Lumpkin County, Eddie returned to his alma mater where over the next 11 years he was a teacher, coach and administrator. During his years at East Hall he compiled an impressive winning record coaching the girls and boys basketball teams. On completion of a masters and specialist degree from The University of Georgia, Waldrep took a principal’s position at Lula Elementary.  His final 16 years in education were with the Buford City School System where he served as Elementary School Principal, High School Principal and finally in various positions in the central office.
Eddie was a member of New Holland Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, having being ordained as a deacon at Riverbend Baptist Church. His greatest loves were his church and spending time with family.  Eddie and Sue were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on January 27th, 2016. His proudest moments were becoming a husband to Sue, daddy to Jill and “Pa” to Jace.
Mr. Waldrep is survived by his wife, Sue Wilson Waldrep of Gainesville, his daughter and son-in-law Jill and Neil Armstrong of Blue Ridge, and granddaughter Neilie Jace Armstrong also of Blue Ridge. Brother and sister-in-law Jimmy and Geneva Waldrep, sisters and brother-in-law Geraldine Roper, Sandra and Stanley Roberts, Donna and Bart Noll, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gary and Vannessa Wilson and Curtis and Betty Carroll Hubbard, as well as many nieces and nephews, also, special friends Jackie and Mary Alice Segars.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations be made to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Office of Gift Records, Emory University, 1762 Clifton Road NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322 or New Holland Baptist Church, Gainesville Ga.
Memorial service will be held at New Holland Baptist Church, Saturday, November 29th at 11:00 am.  Dr. Terry Crawford and Rev. Doug Godby will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church sanctuary.

Charlotte Hyde passes away at 100 years old

Charlotte Hyde passed away early in the morning of November 8th, 2014, at age 100.  The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 pm and visitation will be at 1:00 pm. Charlotte died at the Lila Doyle Assisted Living in Seneca, SC.  The funeral will be at the Davanport Funeral Home in West Union, SC.

Anyone in the family who wishes to eat lunch with us at 11:00 am on Monday, please let me know by  no later than 8:00 pm on Sunday night.  The College Street Baptist Church, 407 South College Street, Walhalla, SC 29691, Office (864) 638-2986, of which she has been a member since 1934, is anxious to do this, so I would appreciate hearing from anyone who is coming and wishes to have lunch with us.

Charlotte is the daughter of Annie Waldrep, granddaughter of James Lafayette Waldrep. Her only living brother is Lawrence Hyde.
